Contest Launched
Kuwait City - The 2009 IMLA-Gulf Mart Cooking
Competition for Indian ladies in Kuwait is brought to you by the
Indian Muslim Ladies Association (IMLA), the women’s wing of Kuwait
Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA). This could be the most exciting
thing that happens to you this year.

The Contest was launched last Friday by the Executive
Mr. Eby Joseph, Executive Chef of Le Meridien by releasing the first
copy of the event brochure to to Sageer Trikarpur, chairman of KKMA.
The search to find the best culinary talent amongst Indian families
in Kuwait will be held on 15 May 2009 at Indian Community School in
Khaitan. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a gulping gourmet and are
rather partial to a bit of chopping and mixing, stirring and frying,
you might be interested to see how your creations on the kitchen
stove are served up alongside those of other housewives.
There will be three items to contest: (1) Rice Biriyani (Veg or Non
Vegetarian); (2) Desserts (pudding), and (3) Confectionery or baked
items (traditional snacks, hot or sweet items).
Are you interested to give a try? Registrants will be
asked to prepare and bring their items on the day of event. For

The IMLA Executive meeting held to finalize the program was presided
over by Arefa Abdul Fatah, president of IMLA. General Secretary
Namira Isham presented the activity report. Aysha Mahmoud, Nafeesath
Muneer, Saneeba Abdulgafoor, Raihana Ishak, Sakeena Ashraf, Hafseera
Shabeer, Safeera Nasser, Rina Shaheed, Abida Shafeek participated in
discussions.

1. Contest is open to all families of Indian
ladies residing in Kuwait.

You may contest in one or all available
categories. However, only one item from each category should be
submitted.

Entries should be delivered to the exhibition
hall for display and judging on the day of event from 5:00 to
6:00 p.m.

Quantity of entries should be enough to serve two
persons only.

Great prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and
3rd prize winners from each category. The best dish amongst all
entries will be entitled to “Dish Of The Day Award”. A honorary
participation certificate will be granted to each participant.

Submission of written recipes are optional which
may be published in KKMA website (www.kkma.net) or other event
related publications.

General Rules

Each entry dish must be enough for two persons.
One portion will be used for judging; the remainder will be
given as samples to the audience.

All decisions of the judge’s panel is final.

Each entry will be judged on the following scale:

Presentation and Creativity - 30 points
-
Originality and Feasibility - 30 points
-
Taste and Aroma - 30 points
-
Degree of Difficulty to prepare the food - 10
points
POINTS TO NOTE:
Originality and Feasibility:
to see the availability of ingredients, and the type of ingredients
used, are they original or canned, fresh, artificial, etc.
Taste and Aroma: it will
be very difficult to taste all dishes. Therefore we will taste if
something not clear and taste the best one which will be choose by
the judges.
Minus Points: A maximum
of 5 points to be given to something not related to food is used -
tooth picks, aluminum foils, pins, candles, non-edible flowers etc.
Additional Plus Points: A maximum of 5 points will be given
to a rhythm oriented food theme. For example home made pickle is
presented with the biriyani, a new kind of raita, new chutney. A
different sauce for desert for desert pepper sauce of ras mali, etc.
Awards:
1st, 2nd and 3rd Place will get valuable prizes. The best dish
amongst the all will be awarded with “Dish Of The Day” Award.
