Kuwait City -- The Sports Wing of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) celebrated the season by organizing its first ever Inter branch Volleyball tournament dubbed as KKMA Challengers Cup 2009.

The full day event held on Friday, 2nd January 2009 at Indian community school Khaitan was inaugurated by Mr. Pancly Varkey, Country Manager of UAE Exchange Center.  He also took the guard of honor for the first match between DK Blue Warriors versus Abbasiya Tigers.  Mr. Ram Das, Marketing manager UAE, Shabeer Mandoly, managing director of Photo Me also were present.   

The early morning of Friday while the sun shining brightly with breezy winds blowing bringing the cool winter season at its peak which did not deter the participant of eight branches and overwhelming crowds at the tournament.

Total eight teams comprised of KKMA members from various branch committees participated in the tournament. Teams were DK Blue Warriors, Abbasiya Tigers, DK White Pigeon, Farwaniya Green Star, Farwaniya Bullet Proof, Hasawi Shining Stars, Salmiya Challengers and City Brothers.

The highlight of the tournament was the final match between DK-Blue Warriors versus Salmiya-Challengers, which took five marathon sets to decide the winner.  DK-Blue Warriors  won the challengers cup 2009 with 3-2 sets in a close  fighting contest, final match has displayed one of the best entertaining and exiting volleyball games as both team had the experience, skilled and professional volleyball players.

Tournament was conducted in a knockout format dividing teams into two pools with four teams in each pool.  Two teams of each pool proceed to the semifinals, all the matches displayed immense talent and everyone was marveled by the sportsmanship of each team. The semifinal match took between DK-White Pigeon versus Salmiya-Challengers and DK-Blue Warriors versus Farwaniya-Bulletproof,

The exciting day ended with the prize distribution ceremony, KKMA Management Committee distributed the trophies to all the winners.  Winning Trophy was awarded to DK-Blue warriors by Mr. Sageer Trikarpur, Chairman of KKMA and Salmiya Challengers were awarded with Runner UP cup by Akbar Siddique, Vice Chairman of KKMA.

S.M Ilyas of DK Warriors was chosen as the best defender while Shafiq of Salmiya Challengers was selected as the best Offender.  Yet, the Best All Rounder of the Tournament was Majid of DK.  Trophies for the best players were distributed by N A Muneer, KKMA President, Abdul Fatah Thayyil, KKMA General Secretary and AP Abdul Salam, KKMA Working President.

Match Referee Kiran Kumar for his excellent contribution was felicitated by B.M Iqbal, KKMA Vice President for Social events.

It was an historical moment for the KKMA Sports Wing, as everyone witnessed the grand success of its first ever volleyball tournament, the Sports Wing has formed KKMA Volleyball Club by selecting the best talented players from the tournament to participate in the domestic felid as part of KKMA sports mission.
